The Alexander Technique offers us an unique psychophysical approach to learning about ourselves through movement. When we access the underlying principles which govern our thoughts and actions, we gain ease and grace in daily life, as well as in specialized activities.
The Alexander Technique was developed more than one hundred years ago by an Australian actor named F.M. Alexander. Over the years many performers, actors, musicians, and dancers have been drawn to the technique because they have found that the study helps them directly with their craft and performance. Other people, however have found equally rich rewards in terms of awareness and freedom from stress and tension.
Whether your occupation is computer programming or landscaping, whether your avocation is playing the violin or building fine furniture, whether your sport is playing golf or swimming, whether you exercise by walking a few miles a day or by riding a stationary bike, the Alexander Technique can make a difference. Students of the Alexander Technique experience many positive benefits. These can include ease of movement, relief from stress and pain, improvement of coordination and performance, and increased awareness and clarity of thinking.
The stress and tensions of modern life often result in a condition where we seem to have our foot on the accelerator and the brake at the same time- going no-where fast and consuming quite a lot of energy. We need to learn to ease up on the accelerator and to get our foot off the break so that we can move forward more easily in the world.
